Short answer

Ending C requires all three Chapter I area secrets on the same route: recover the cinema remote and follow the hidden map in Misery; catch all 18 fish, collect the key, and finish the windowed shared-room sequence in Timesville; then use the telescope, phone number, Morse clue, and logic rooms in the Office. Finish the story, refuse the obvious Chapter III epilogue door, and return to Mellow's room for the final Clocky route.

When to do it: Use a late Chapter I backup after earning the two ordinary endings. Complete the three secrets before resolving their respective areas and advancing to Chapter II.

What you need: Metal detector, all 18 fish and their key, telescope placement access, the Jobs phone application, and a clean backup of the nearly completed Chapter I state.

Missable or risky: Highly missable. Area resolution can remove secret access, and entering the requested epilogue door bypasses the Stay trigger. Keep an external backup.

Spoiler-free route

For a low-spoiler route, fully investigate one optional chain in each of Misery, Timesville, and the Office before ending Chapter I. Each chain begins with an object or interaction the main objective does not require.

After completing the remaining story, do not obey the final door's written request. Backtrack to the first room, meet the unexpected visitor, and follow the game-window sequence to its conclusion.

Confirmed details

Misery starts with the metal detector in the cinema where the clown films played. It reveals a projector remote; using the screen produces a map that leads through the checkerboard/hands area to the secret conclusion.

Timesville starts with the detector revealing the fishing paper. Catch three fish in every Day 1–3 and Night 1–3 state, take the key from the paper, open the small shared-room shack, switch to windowed mode with Alt+Enter if needed, and continue through the angel's enter prompt.

The Office starts by placing the telescope near the entrance/train-side sleeping figure with the wrench. Read the number, call it through Jobs, translate the Morse instruction, stand below the stairs beside the vending machine for one minute, then solve the hidden logic rooms.

The Office symbol rules include: $4 means four dollar symbols; * > ^ converts asterisks into arrows; % > ! changes all filled-circle percent marks; and later rooms use swap, neighbor, screen-rotation/eye, and missing-element rules.

This page separates documented requirements from route advice. Names, achievement conditions, platform details, and item counts are checked against the linked Steam records; navigation is cross-checked against recorded gameplay. If an update changes a room, prompt, or trigger, use the verification note below before assuming the save is broken.

Step-by-step solution

Step 1 — Close the game and copy the late Chapter I save. Make sure Misery is before the request that everyone leave, Timesville is at the waterfall path after the Ozzie tape, and the Office has the Core Key plus maximum productivity without its final resolution.

Step 2 — Finish Misery's secret: scan the cinema, take the projector remote, use the screen, copy the revealed map, and follow the checkerboard/hands route until the secret clearly concludes.

Step 3 — Finish Timesville's secret: reveal the fishing paper, catch the complete 18-fish roster, leave the pole, collect the new key, unlock the shared-room shack, use Alt+Enter for the display trick, and obey the angel's enter instruction.

Step 4 — Finish the Office secret: place and use the telescope at the entrance observation point, note the number, call it through Jobs, follow the Morse instruction to wait below the stairs by the vending machine for sixty seconds, and solve each logic chamber from its displayed transformation rule.

Step 5 — Resolve the three bosses by either route, complete Chapters II and III, and reach the final epilogue. Do not open the door asking to be opened; backtrack to Mellow's room.

Step 6 — Speak with the familiar face, follow the Clocky rematch and game-window sequence, and let the ending complete. Confirm that the hidden Steam achievement Stay has unlocked before changing saves.

Common failures and softlock risks

Completing only one or two secrets does not partially unlock Stay. All three area flags must be present on the same continuing save.

The Timesville safe/window behavior can be invisible in exclusive full screen. Alt+Enter is part of the recovery path, not a reason to close the process.

The Office Morse trigger requires waiting at the correct spot for about one full minute. Moving away early makes a correct clue look broken.

Do not enter the final epilogue door out of habit. The backtrack to Mellow's room is the decisive branch after the three secret flags are set.

Recovery rule: stop before crossing another chapter boundary. Confirm the current objective, cycle every usable inventory item, and retry the interaction from a clean room entry. If the trigger still fails, close the game before restoring a known-good save; copying or replacing live save files while the game is open can overwrite the recovery state.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to spare every boss for Ending C?

The documented Ending C requirement is the three area secrets plus the epilogue backtrack. Boss-spare choices are valuable for achievements but are not the substitute for any secret.

Do I have to skip the first Clocky fight?

No. The first Clocky fight does not need a special skip; Ending C leads to a later rematch through Mellow's room.
